1. What inspired you to write this book?
I completed my first children’s book, Willy the Fighting Fish, joins the
82nd Airborne. I
thought, you know what? I can write another book about my best childhood
friend, Tiger
the German Shepherd. The book takes place in Taiwan, and it would be an
excellent
opportunity to Reflect on what life was like for a Military Child in the
Vietnam Era. Plus,
it would show the importance of family, confidence, and self-esteem.
Writing allows me
to travel the world, create characters, imagine stories and events, and
mold them into a
fascinating, funny, and educational physical tale.
2. What is it about, and who is it written for?
There was a German Shepherd named Tiger. He was no ordinary dog; he was
a war
dog. Tiger served alongside soldiers and provided them with
companionship and
protection during their missions. Tiger had been trained rigorously,
honing his skills to
be a brave and loyal companion. Tiger finds himself separated from his
military caretakers at the end of the Vietnam War. He wanders through the
ravaged lands, seeking a purpose and a new home. Fate leads him to the bustling
city of Taipei, Taiwan, where he embarks on a new chapter of his life. The book
tells what happens to Tiger and how he finds a family and self-worth. The book
is written for kids 4 through 12 years of age.
3. What do you hope readers will get from reading your book?
I hope they will laugh, cheer, enjoy, learn history and geography, and
also learn about
self-esteem and self-worth, as well as how important Family, friends,
and neighbors are,
as well as other cultures and people.
4. How did you decide on your book’s title and cover design?
The book takes place in two Asian countries, so I wanted to pay tribute
to that culture by
designing an Asian-inspired book. Vietnam and Taiwan both have beautiful
people and
are lovely places. The cover features Dragons, Seas, and Vietnam. Since
the story is
about Tiger, the German shepherd, I also wanted to place him front and
center.
5. What advice or wisdom do you have for fellow writers – other than
run!?
Be yourself and do you. Don’t listen to the naysayers or downers. Keep a
positive
outlook and keep trying. It is hard work. Success comes easy for some,
but a lot of
sacrifice must be made to get there.
Everyone has a story to tell. It is how or if they mean it that matters.
6. What trends in the book world do you see — and where do you think
the book
publishing industry is heading?
A lot of Artificial Intelligence is being used to create books. Some of
the books are good,
and some are not. However, when you focus on providing quantity rather
than quality,
you give up some creativity and uniqueness. There is a lot of focus on
Artificial Intelligence’s capability, but nothing compares to the quality and
creativity of human ingenuity. Being different is exceptional, and your style matters.
Artificial Intelligence can’t tell your story better than you. To be the next Angelou
or Edgar Allen Poe, you must be the Original.
Original content still matters.
7. Were there experiences in your personal life or career useful when
writing this book?
Yes, my life of traveling worldwide as a Military child, Military
Veteran, and Vacation
traveler. I also spent a lot of my childhood overseas in various
countries. I was also a
Middle School Teacher and taught Disabled Children, too. They called me
Ms. Good
Nerves. The Kids were so funny, but I liked them, and they liked me.
8. How would you describe your writing style? Which writers or books is
your writing
like?
I don’t write similarly to anyone. I am me, and they are them. Nothing
beats originality.
9. What challenges did you overcome in the writing of this book?
I tried to make the book complement and tell life lessons through the
eyes of a Dog.
This book shows action scenes without using Weapons or anyone being
killed. There is
a lot of school violence, and I wanted to stay away from that. I worked
with parents and
had them review the book and others to ensure it flowed well, pictures
told the story,
and violence was minimal.
10. If people can buy or read one book this week or month, why should it
be yours?
There is no other book like this one and no other story better than
“Tiger the War Dog”
from Saigon, Vietnam. Not only does it go back in time in Contemporary
American
History, but it also tells the story of the ending of the Vietnam War
from a child who
experienced it firsthand. The book is a heartwarming, funny story about
a loyal dog, pet rabbits, and a monkey. Tiger, who has been to war and back.
Tiger’s Journey from Vietnam to Taipei, Taiwan, is a story that will be perfect
for dog lovers of all ages and great for children and families everywhere.
About The Author: The author grew up in a Military Family and is a Military Brat. The
Author enjoys Military History and has traveled a great deal. The author has
been to 18 countries and lived in 4 of them. The Author liked the US Military
so much that the Author joined the service. The Author’s family has served in
all major conflicts, starting with World War I for the US Military, supporting
mainly the US Army. The author remembered the Vietnam War stories and decided
to go to Vietnam. Today, 45 years later, there are still remnants of the US
Military presence as well as scars from the War. However, times have changed. Vietnam
