1. What inspired you to write this book? One night at bedtime, my eight-year-old daughter told me
that instead of my reading to her from a book, she wanted me to make up a
story. This began an on-going series of stories about a young girl and her best
friend, a ghost named Guber.
 

2. What exactly is it about and who is
it written for?
Elodie
Meets Guber the Ghost introduces eight year old Elodie who meets an unexpected
friend under the full moon. Elodie’s new friend, Guber the Ghost, explains that
his funny name means “someone who improves the world.” Guber asks
Elodie about her dreams for the future and sets the stage for the additional
stories to come in “The Adventures of Elodie and Guber the Ghost”.
The series, which now has three stories in print, is written for inquisitive
ages 3-8.
 

3. What do you hope readers will get out of reading
your book?
Laughter, family bonding,
reflection on one’s dreams for the future, curiosity about what comes next.
Adult readers will enjoy the pop culture references that range from obvious to
obscure.
 

4. How did you decide on your book’s title and cover design? “Elodie Meets Guber the Ghost” reflects both the
plot of the story but also alludes to the “more to come”. The cover
reveals the joy of flying under the full moon.
 

5. What advice or words of wisdom do you have for fellow
writers – other than run!?

Revel in the actual creative part of the craft, using your imagination and
construction of your prose. This is the easier and enjoyable part of
authorship.  
 

6. What trends in the book world do you see — and where do
you think the book publishing industry is heading?
Diverse characters and themes are being sought after. A lot
of creativity and interest is being generated as these themes come to life in
both traditional and innovative narratives.
 

7. Were there experiences in your personal life or
career that came in handy when writing this book?
Whether in my business career or in my budding wrting
career, the Woody Allen adage of “90% of success is showing up” has
proven itself in my life time and again. Perseverance and patience in
publishing is essential.
 

8. How would you describe your writing style? Which writers
or books is your writing similar to?

I would consider my style to be minimalistic, using the least amount of
verbiage to express a vivid atmosphere, tone and plot. Although not a
Children’s author, I have always enjoyed Kurt Vonnegut and his style.
 

9. What challenges did you overcome in the writing of this
book?
Editing out the purely inside
family jargon.

why should it be yours?

Meets Guber the Ghost will enable you to share laughter, wonder and dreams of
the future with your young family members at the same time raising your
curiosity as to what comes next for Elodie and Guber the Ghost.
 

About The Author:
PE Waring is a communications technology executive originally from Atlanta, GA,
who moved his family from suburban Atlanta to rural Montpelier, VT while his 3
children were in early grade school. As his children grew older and tired of
their collection of Children’s books, they asked him to make up his own
stories. That gave birth to the “Adventures of Elodie and Guber the
Ghost” series which his now grown children encouraged him to publish. The
stories revolve around 8-year old Elodie who lives in an idyllic rural
setting with her parents and two brothers. One night she befriends a Ghost
named Guber, igniting a series of adventures that include a recurring cast of
engaging and humorous characters- people, talking animals and other ghosts.
